- Rui: "You play the sweet, loving little angel, but inside you know exactly what you're doing. And if people get hurt by your games, why do you care? You're not there anymore."
- Shizuka: "R-Rui...I don't know what you're..."
- Rui: "Will you stop playing with my feelings?! I like Tsukushi Makino?! Don't make me laugh. There's only one girl I want..."
- — Rui confronts Shizuka.
The twelfth chapter of Boys Over Flowers by Yoko Kamio was published in Margaret No.19 in September 1992. The chapter was preceded by chapter eleven in August 1992. It is also the first chapter in volume three.
After accidentally kissing Tsukasa Domyoji at his party, Tsukushi Makino stares back at him in shock. She runs to the deck of the ship, where Tsukasa says, "Don't tell me you've never been kissed before?" Obviously upset, Tsukushi tells him "Don't come near me!", when he steps closer. She returns to Kazuya Aoike's villa and tries to fall asleep, only to imagine Tsukasa.
The F4 and Shizuka Todo visit the beach the next day, but are gawked at by the other beach-goers. Tsukushi's mother wishes her to see Tsukasa and drags Tsukushi to the beach, despite her protests. Akira Mimasaka and Sojiro Nishikado tease Tsukushi and Tsukasa about their kiss. Tsukushi looks to Rui and denies the kiss, though he coldly brushes her off. Later, Kazuya challenges Tsukasa to catch more cuttlefish, while Tsukushi goes to return Shizuka's dress.
On the ship, Tsukushi stumbles upon many of her classmates in intimate situations, before overhearing Shizuka and Rui on deck. Shizuka casually asks Rui, "Well, you like [Tsukushi], don't you?" The statement angers Rui, who launches into a rant about Shizuka. He tells her, "There's only one girl I want," before dragging her into one of the ship's empty cabins. Tsukushi, who witnessed the whole exchange, collapses in shock.
