"Hatsukoi" (
Background[]
Hikaru Utada originally performed the image song, "Flavor of Life," for Hana Yori Dango Returns (2007). Utada was confirmed to be in charge of the image song for Hana Nochi Hare in early April 2018.[3] Before writing "Hatsukoi," she read the manga to understand its themes.[4] The song and its title were officially unveiled during the broadcast of the first episode on April 17.[1] It was released as a single on May 30. The same day, a short music video for the song was published. It was directed by Yasuhito Tsuge, who previously filmed Utada's "Manatsu no Toriame." "Hatsukoi" was included as the title track of Utada's seventh studio album on June 27.[5]
In 2022, "Hatsukoi" and her 1999 single "First Love" were used in the drama, also titled First Love, while also serving as inspiration to the storyline.[6] A remastering of "Hatsukoi" and "First Love" in Dolby Atmos was released later the same year.[7]
