Kotaro Shiga (志賀 廣太郎,Shiga Kōtarō, August 31, 1948 – April 20, 2020) was an actor who had been active since the 1990s. In 2018, he portrayed Kozo Kobayashi in the television drama, Hana Nochi Hare: Hanadan Next Season. He passed away of pneumonia in April 2020 while recovering from a previous illness.

Illness and death[]
In April 2019, Shiga developed a cerebral thrombus and had to have emergency surgery.[1][2] Due to his hospitalization, he was forced to stop filming What Did You Eat Yesterday?, of which he had only filmed five episodes. His role was recast.[3] Shiga was also set to appear in Idaten but had to drop out.[4] From then on, Shiga was attempting to rehabilitate himself in order to return to acting.[5] However, he suddenly fell ill of aspiration pneumonia and passed away on April 20, 2020 at 8:20 PM. He was seventy-one years old. A funeral was held on April 29 for close relatives. His agency waited until after the funeral to announce his death.[6][7]
