Shota Matsuda (松田 翔太 (まつだ しょうた) Matsuda Shōta, born September 10, 1985 in Suginami, Japan) is an actor best known for his roles in Hana Yori Dango and Liar Game. He is the son of the famous Japanese actor Yusaku Matsuda.

Matsuda played Sojiro Nishikado in Hana Yori Dango, Hana Yori Dango Returns, and Hana Yori Dango Final.

Biography

Early life

Shota Matsuda was born on September 10, 1985 in Suginami, Tokyo, Japan[1] to Japanese actors, Yusaku and Miyuki Matsuda. Matsuda has an older brother, actor Ryuhei Matsuda (born 1983); a younger sister, musician Yuki (born 1988);[2] and an older half-sister from his father's previous marriage.

His father died on November 6, 1989 from bladder cancer, when Matsuda was four years old.

Career

Matsuda debuted in 2005 in a television special, titled Yankee Bokou ni Kaeru. The same year, he gained popularity after costarring in Hana Yori Dango as Sojiro Nishikado. He appeared in two films, A Cheerful Gang Turns the Earth and A Long Walk, in 2006. The following year, Matsuda reprised his role as Sojiro Nishikado in the popular sequel, Hana Yori Dango Returns. Also in 2007, he starred opposite Erika Toda in psychological drama, Liar Game. Matsuda costarred in Hana Yori Dango Final and had supporting roles in the dramas, Bara no nai Hanaya and Atsuhime, in 2008.

In 2009, he had major roles in Love Shuffle, Meitantei no Okite, and Liar Game: Season 2. Matsuda went on to reprise his role in two Liar Game films, Liar Game: The Final Stage (2010) and Liar Game: Reborn (2012). He had a supporting role in the 2012 taiga drama, Taira no Kiyomori. In 2013, Matsuda starred in Clinic on the Sea with Emi Takei and Norika Fujiwara. The following year, he appeared in Musashi Miyamoto with Takuya Kimura. Matsuda starred in Dias Police: Ihou Keisatsu in 2016, and reprised his role in the film, Dias Police: Dirty Yellow Boys. In 2017, he starred in Final Life: Asu, Kimi ga Kietemo with Korean actor Lee Tae-min.

Personal life

On April 25, 2018, Matsuda married Japanese model, Kozue Akimoto.[3]
