'97 Spring Fair pamphlet featuring Hana Yori Dango: The Movie (bottom)

The Toei Anime Fair (東映アニメフェア (とうえいアニメフェア) Tōei Anime Fea) was an event that took place biyearly from July 1990 to July 2002 during the spring and summer breaks of the Japanese school year. The event emerged from the Toei Manga Festival (東映まんがまつり () ), also presented by Toei. Two or three short anime films would premiere simultaneously in theaters across Japan.[1][2][3] It concluded with the Summer Fair of July 2002, after poor earnings.[4]

Hana Yori Dango premiered at the '97 Spring Toei Anime Fair ('97春東映アニメフェア () ) on March 8, 1997.[5] The film is a spin-off of the Hana Yori Dango anime, which places the main characters in New York as aspiring dancers on Broadway.[6] Hell Teacher Nūbē: Gozen 0 toki Nūbē Shisu and GeGeGe no Kitarō premiered alongside Hana Yori Dango.
